Popcorn is a Whole Grain Food It’s hard to believe a snack food that tastes so good can actually
be good for you! With suggestions from organizations such as the National Cancer Institute (NCI),
the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Dietetic Association (ADA), there’s no
doubt popcorn is a perfectly sensible snack to fit into any meal/fitness plan.
- Popcorn is a whole grain food which makes it a highquality
carbohydrate source that is not only low in calories,
but a good source of fiber. - Popcorn is low in calories - only 31-55 calories in one
cup of unbuttered, and when lightly buttered, one cup still
only has 133 calories. - Popcorn has no artificial additives or preservatives, and is
sugar-free. - Popcorn contains energy-producing carbohydrates.
- Popcorn is ideal for between meal snacking since it satisfies
and doesn’t spoil an appetite. - Popcorn inspires creativity. While there’s no doubt hot buttered
popcorn is pleasing to any palate, popcorn also can be
enjoyed when combined with seasonings, spices and other
foods like raisins, fruit and cheese providing a nutritious, delicious
snack. *Source: www.popcorn.org *
Kosher Information
Kosher plants are considered among the cleanest and safest and the Orthodox Union (OU) symbol has become one of the world’s best known kosher trademarks. Preston Farms has been a kosher certified plant under the supervision of the OU since 2000. In order to produce kosher products, our equipment is boiled out and cleaned according to the strict guidelines of the OU and under the supervision of an OU rabbi. Kosher Product Offerings In order to display the OU logo on a bag of popcorn, there are two options:
- Customer can have their art on the bag as long as this language
appears on the bag: Manufactured by Preston Farms
LLC. There is no additional charge to do this because Preston
Farms is already known to the OU.
- For customers who do not wish to have Preston Farms
LLC on the bag, they can sign a private label agreement,
which we will provide, between Preston Farms, the OU and
the customer and pay an annual private label fee. This fee is
good for the year, May 1 – April 30 and is not prorated for
entry midway through. We do not mark this fee up. Please call for 2010 fees. (812) 364-6123
Please understand that the reason for these two requirements is to ensure that if a consumer ever had a question about the “kosherness” of a product that displays the OU logo, it is vital that the product be easily traced to the company who produced it. It is an honor to be a kosher certified plant and we take our commitment to this very seriously.
